Asem pajang mango, Bambangan mango

A tropical plant. They grow in the humid tropics. It grows in lowland Dipterocarp forest in Borneo. It grows in areas with abundant rain which is evenly distributed throughout the year. They can grow up to 1000 m altitude.

Found in: Asia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sarawak, SE Asia

Notes: There are about 40 Mangifera species. An unresolved name in The Plant List.

Status: It is cultivated by Dyak people. The young leaves are sold in markets. The fruit are attractive.

Growing Asem pajang mango, Bambangan mango

Cultivation: Plants are grown from seed. Seedlings need moisture and light shade.

Edible Uses: The young leaves are eaten as a vegetable. The skin is peeled off 1 cm thick and the flesh eaten. The fruit can be ripe and are then eaten raw. Some fruit are sour and are then eaten with sugar and chilli powder.
