Where does Bacang grow?
Found in: Asia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indochina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pacific, Papua New Guinea, PNG, Philippines, SE Asia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam
Notes: There are about 40 Mangifera species. An unresolved name in The Plant List.It is rich in Vitamin A.
Status: They are sold in markets in Malaysia. Edible fruit can be sold for $1 each in Brunei. It is a cultivated fruit tree.
Growing Bacang, Horse mango
Cultivation: Plants are grown from seed.
Edible Uses: The fruit are eaten once they are fully ripe. They are also used in chutney and pickles. The fruit has a turpentine smell which makes it less popular. CAUTION: The unripe fruit can irritate the skin. The ripe fruit is peeled thickly to avoid this. The unripe fruit are washed in salted water and sliced and used as a vegetable and in pickles.
Production: Flowers can be produced throughout the year but often in two main flushes.
